L2TD Interaction Design

This page is for comments and info related to the actual design of the L2TD space - features, layout, etc.

Some notes from 1-4-06 Trails meeting:

Install macro that shows attachments directly in confluence page (anders)

In the design of this site, encourage visitors to sign up for "updates" which allows them to watch for changes to particular pages

Send around link to this main page to the Trails team (anders)

Deb mentioned that would be nice to provide some background info on what we are about, how this site can be helpful, what our mission statement is, etc. For example, how would an instructor know to consider themselves as teaching an ed tech, learning design course? Do we have a good definition for this?

As we move forward, we need to be thinking of this space as being public, rather than as an internal wiki for trails team consumption.

Need to explore the "news" and "email" functionality of confluence (anders)

Chris reiterated that we will have (many?) intermittant visitors that we we coming to our site in a panic - they need something now. Since these folks will not be viewing the space on a weekly or monthly basis they will probably appreciate having good reorientation information to help remind them about what we offer, how they know they are at the right place, how to navigate, etc.

We can assume a techie audience, so OK to use techie terms and references (e.g. slashdot, versiontracker)

At a later point we will want to have pointers from this space to our printed book

It would be nice to get some idea of membership statistics that we can post on the main page so as to give visitors a feeling of welcome. Provide geographic info, number of visitors, etc. This brings up the idea of how we want to do registration and if/how confluence supports this type of thing.

FROM JUDI:
Chris, do you have web stats package (like analog) running? Can I have the URL for the data?

One thing that we could do (or the intern) would be to create a newsletter and have it posted on the site (as well as a mailing list for it) to keep generating some fresh content.
